How I fell in love with reading?
I grew up with classmates who read a lot and English teachers who were always up for discussions and debates about books.
It all started with the short stories of Rabindranath Tagore, Roald Dhal, and Ruskin Bond, to name a few. I pictured every scene and every character in my mind and would transport myself into that world. It was all a fun stories to to listen while experiencing the emotions felt by every character in those stories.
All these short stories made my childhood exciting and adventurous.
As a teen in school, Novels were introduced to our academic session. I read Troy and Oliver Twist. Books that made me feel misery & tragedy.
Around my late teens, I fell in love with romantic books. I had more book crushes than real ones and roamed soulless for some time after reading "Looking for Alaska". I didn't complete the final chapter. I wasn't able to finish it, and I still can't.
I was also introduced to "Chicken Soup for the Soul". These books made me fall in love with people and their life stories.
Meanwhile, there was a computer and a stable internet connection at my home. That's where I found blogs. I didn't follow any specific author or blog. I read Everything that I enjoyed about people, cities and places. Reading them made me feel like I had travelled the world.
After joining architecture school, I was introduced to a whole different world that was more serious and political. To Kill a Mockingbird bird, Fountainhead, Kafka and Murakami. These books changed the perspective of how I viewed the world.
By this time, social media had become famous, and people started writing to publish on their accounts. There were weekly episodes, day-to-day life stories about their city or anything that inspired them to write. That many people read.
As the world and way of life changed at the speed of light, People returned with blogs and zines. Which have become my muse lately.
I haven't been reading much of books now. This post is a reminder for me to start reading again. Maybe I'll come up with more posts on books I read and why I enjoyed reading them.
