Shiitake Mushroom

Play your role.

I woke up unusually early today. The sky was dark, and the city was still asleep. As it dawned, my parents started their morning routine, which they have been doing for 30 years. My mom cooks, and My father helps her with food prep.

This role gets exchanged sometimes as my father cooks well too, and there was never a day without them ending up in a tiff. Say, If my mum instructs my father to cut a vegetable in a particular size for her recipe, he would argue it won't taste good if he did it that way. If my father cooks, my mum would interfere with his recipe.

Watching them end up on another tiff today reminded me of something SJ Suryah (South Indian film director and actor) said in his recent interview.

"Everybody should follow their job and designation. If you are an actor, be an actor. If you are a director, be a director. Don't change into other things."

He said as the interviewer asked him about being an actor on the sets of another director.

Understanding our role in a particular situation or place is crucial. Defining our position and standing within it stops the chain of reaction to chaos.
